melonie mazibuko
Melonie Mazibuko is a South African theatre maker, performer and teacher. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, as well as a degree in Musical Theatre from the Tshwane University of Technology in South Africa.
Recent performances include In Here Out There, which she devised with her MFA Acting cohort, 24 Hours of #Ferguson, a solo work which she wrote and performed as part of the MFA Solo Festival at OSU, a Solo Performance Art piece at the Urban Arts Space in downtown Columbus, Margaret Hughes in The First Actress (Palindrome Productions, London, UK), Anne Sicco in There is No Silence (a devised work based on the life and work of Marcel Marceau), Antonia in The Tempest (directed by Cressida Brown, assistant director at the Royal Shakespeare Company in the UK), The Teacher in The Visit, and Princess Puffer in The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
New Works include a production of her one-act play Dancing to Mama's Song for the Lab Series (OSU), a performance of her 10-minute play Singin' and Drivin' and Getting' Tested for Drunkness (in conjunction with the Lab Series' 10-minute Play Festival), a Workshopped Staging of her play, Branches, at the Tristan Bates Theatre in London, UK (in collaboration with OSU's London Theatre Program), and a devised two-person show with Sifiso Mazibuko, !ke e: /xarra //ke - A New African Folk Tale, about their home country of South Africa, which was also performed for the Lab Series.
Upcoming productions include a revised performance of !ke e: /xarra //ke - A New African Folk Tale at the Cincinnati Fringe Festival from May 26-June 6, and a performance of her solo show, 24 Hours of #Ferguson at the Courtyard Theatre in London, UK (in collaboration with Palindrome Productions) in July 2015.
